Do You Need a Life Coach Certification in Florida?
No. Florida doesn't license or certify life coaches, so certification is voluntary. Coaching must stay out of therapy: the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling licenses those professions. The life coaching vs. therapy guide explains where the line sits.
Most Florida coaches earn a credential from the International Coaching Federation. The Associate Certified Coach (ACC) requires 60 hours of coach training, 100 hours of coaching experience (75 paid), 10 hours of mentor coaching, a performance evaluation and the ICF ACC Exam. Graduates of ICF Level 1 and Level 2 programs apply for $175 as ICF members or $325 as non-members.
Corporate buyers such as Jacksonville's financial headquarters and Tampa's hospital systems tend to ask for that credential. Compare the ACC, PCC and MCC and the other credentials in the certification guide.
